FOOD AND DRUGS ADMINISTRATION

 

Food safety through Food quality control Programme is of paramount in achieving the goal of “Health for All”. Food and Drugs Administration is enforcing two Vital Central Acts, viz., Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act, 1954 in the Union Territory of Pondicherry.  The Food and Drugs should be catered to the public with utmost care free from all impurities.  Any contamination to the above substances will lead to hazardous effect.  Therefore from the ancient time till now preventive measures have been regulated to avert contamination in Food and Drugs, Elements of self-profit may involve to adulterate for personal gain.  To have a control and to make avail of pure quality food and drugs, the above said Act were envisaged.  Drugs and Cosmetics Act and the Rules made there under regulate the manufacture, sale and distribution of drugs and cosmetics.  Similarly, Prevention of Food and Adulteration Act ensure manufactures, sale and distribution commodities of food.
